Prospective Students
(Scroll to bottom for Graduate/Postdoctoral position inquiries)
We are a hybrid group, engaging in both experimental and computational theory research. Our researchers range in experience from postdoctoral associates to high school students, and primarily include backgrounds in physics, chemistry, mathematics, materials science, and engineering.
Core tenets of the group
- The group maintains an open door policy and anyone with a love of learning is welcome to come explore with us.
- It is expected that group members work truly as a group. Although certain projects will have organizational leads, we all pitch in to help each other, and all share credit generously. Science is a one team sport, and everyone is on that team.
- All group members must try something outside their normal research actions every Friday. Try something different (safe and not too expensive, please) and see what happens. Such is where new paths discovered.
- Have fun and enjoy the process of discovery.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Our group philosophy is that no undergraduate student is turned away if they want to explore research. Underclassmen are not only accepted but encouraged to start research early: Extended undergraduate research work correlates strongly with higher grades, authorship in publications, and better placement in jobs and graduate/professional school.
I have no problem at all if you want to work in my group for a bit and then use the experience to join another group you are more interested in. You have to start training somewhere, after all.
Students from any major are welcome: Physics, chemistry, materials science, biology/biochemistry, mathematics, business, and every engineering major have previously been a part of the group.
Since 2015, Hauser Group has been home to 50+ undergraduate researchers. See the group alumni page for all the cool places they ended up after they left the group.

Graduate and Postdoctoral Research Opportunities
Hauser Group is always seeking motivated researchers, and funding allows. If interested, please fill our form below.
Due to the massive number of submissions I receive, I put all submissions to a folder and may not respond until funding exists. Please do not think too poorly of me if I do not respond. You only need to submit once - I promise to keep your information on file for 2 years.
Your uploaded cover letter should include a short section on your research interests. If you are applying for a fellowship that requires my attention or input, or have a fellowship already, please email me directly instead of using this form - these are often time-sensitive matters and I will respond directly.
